“We cannot make a genius – we can only give each individual the chance to fulfill his potential possibilities to become an independent, secure and balanced human being.” – Dr. Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori’s objective was not for children to excel academically, but for their learning to occur naturally as individuals. At Small World Montessori School learning is a natural and joyful process.
Indoor Environment – Three large well-equipped rooms with no more than 25 children from ages 2-1/2 to 6 years old. In each class children are under the supervision of a qualified Montessori directress and assistants. The school is centrally air-conditioned and in winter the radiant heat provides the children the luxury to sit on warm floors.
Outdoor Environment – We focus on nurturing the physical and mental development of children during their early years. Our curriculum not only helps to develop the skills of children in the classroom, but also engages them in outdoor activities to enhance their sensory and perceptual development. These activities are crucial for academic and social success. The activities include hop scotch, hide and seek, jump rope, hula hoops, gardening, and many other enjoyable activities.
Music – An integral component of the Small World Curriculum is exposing our students to music. They gain an understanding of various musical instruments and develop an appreciation for the art. This stems from Maria Montessori’s philosophy of using music in developing a child’s mind. Current research indicates how music enhances a child’s abstract reasoning ability which helps children to excel in math and science.
Field Trips – Field Trips are always scheduled during the weekends to accommodate our working parents. It is vital that parents attend these trips when convenient, as this gives them an opportunity to meet the other parents and see their child interact with their peers. They are also able to observe the relationship their child has with the teachers outside of the classroom.
The school was carefully designed to incorporate every aspect of the Montessori learning process, including a spacious, friendly environment with lots of natural light and many inviting areas for personal study. The exterior provides a covered drive-through for drop-off and pick-up.
